Welcome to Frosted! My name is CC and I love cake!
I remember my very first 3D cake. I was 12, and my aunt had bought me a cake kit from a rummage sale. It was one of those Barbie in a cake dress kits. Now, remember, this was before Pinterest, so it was a pretty cool thing. I made it for my cousin Annaliese’s 3rd birthday. My mom, who also used to decorate cakes, helped me put it together and pipe some little decorations. I was so proud of that cake. That’s when I knew I wanted to open a bakery.
At 16 years old, I got my first real job at Great Harvest Bread Co., here in Rochester. I came into the bakery early every morning to make and bake all the cookies, muffins, bars, and scones for the day. I would then move over to the kneading table at about 6 AM to start kneading bread. Everything there was made from scratch, by hand, every day. I would always come home smelling like sugar cookies and fresh baked bread, and I loved it! Another job I held was at Panera Bread in Ames, Iowa. I did food prep and worked as a line cook there. But my favorite thing was when they would let me decorate cookies. A co-worker once asked me to make a birthday cake for their child, but that fell through. I remember baking a cake anyway just to see if I was still any good at it. As it turned out, I was. I have been baking cakes ever since.
My husband Isaac and I are going on 11 years of marriage now and have 2 awesome kiddos. Needless to say, my hands are full, but so is my heart. I have always wanted to be a wife and mother. I have also always wanted to own a bakery. I always thought that owning a bakery was a far away dream because - let’s face it - opening a small business is expensive and time consuming. Selling out of my home was not an option, either, because it was illegal to sell baked goods from home—that is until 2015 . Thanks to some awesome ladies who fought hard for us home bakers, it is now legal to sell baked goods from home under the Cottage Food Producer Law. This means I get to do all my favorite things at once! YAY!
